old danes

Luke my very most special boy, a rescue, 5 good years with us.
Died at home at the age of 10
Today we had a Dane visitor.  She Myla came with her people who came to buy a car part.  She is big 155 lbs and old 10 years  -   white here and there, showing her age.  AND stories of her age, incontinence, difficulty getting in cars and on stairs.

One forgets the end of a dog's life.  A blessing of sorts to let it go as it is hard - here is your beloved dog, puppy, young dog, mature dog - changed moving slowly and not doing well. It doesn't happen overnight but little by little it sneaks up on you.   Old age is old age for people, pets and it takes us by surprise...you know its coming and then you have to live with it, deal with it day in day out and all the time knowing what the future holds.  It's hard, challenging and yet a truly blessed time.  To sit in hospice with your loved one is a privilege

Sir Guy of Gisburne, 12 wonderful years.
Died out in the field by the nest where we used to sit together.
Great Dane to the core. Good puppy, great Great Dane  --  Just a fine dog.

Both of my boys are buried on the land they loved.
