pearls of wisdom

"Laughter is the language of the gods."

You are a child of the earth, wherever you are is home.
If you want to ground yourself, spend more time sitting on the earth
and listening to what she has to say.
She's a wonderful teacher,
but she tends to whisper so you have to listen closely....

~
"Wherever I am let me never forget to distinguish want from need.
Let me be a good animal today."
-Barbara Kingsolver

"In short, all good things are wild and free."
Thoreau

~
"The kingdom of God is within you and all around you,
not in mansions of wood and stone.
Split a piece of wood and I am there.
Lift a stone and you will find Me."
The Gospel of Thomas

"You gain strength courage and confidence by every experience which you really stop to look fear in the face... You must do the thing you cannot do." - Eleanor Roosevelt

" all men die, but not all men truely live"

"If your knees aren't green by the end of the day,
you ought to seriously reexamine your life."
Calvin and Hobbs

~
"There is never enough time to do all the nothing you want."
Calvin and Hobbs

~
"If you want a golden rule that will fit everybody, this is it.
Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful,
or believe to be beautiful."
William Norris (1834-1896)

"That the birds of worry and care fly over your head,
This you cannot change,
But that they build their nests in your hair,
This you can prevent."
Chinese proverb

365

365 project is a picture taking project where each day.  You pick up your camera take pictures and then decide which one to upload for that day.  You can have a theme or just put up a picture you like.  It keeps you hoping and hopping to find good interesting shots.  I find I take 6-18 pictures and delete a few, play with some and have a hard time deciding what to put up.  Here are some from this morning   In future will  use this site for some of the pictures not chosen for 365....

Maine state bird

It is that time of year when mesquitoes return from where ever it is they go in the winter. We have had wet and we have had warm and this combo seems to bring them out in hordes.

leaves are popping out, birds are mating, flowers blooming, turtles laying eggs, grass growing, frogs singing. the energy this time of year is almost overwhelming.  Spring is busting out all over....

content

"Everything has its wonders,
even darkness and silence,
and I learn, whatever state I may be in,
therein to be content."
~Helen Keller

People seem to find these two wonders difficult.  When a meeting goes silent watch the body language.  In this busy, noisy world silence feels unnatural to many.
Night, darkness too seems to be uncomfortable for many.

dealing with negativity

I don't anger easily or often, but this morning I needed
to walk away from some anger and hurt.

I found that working with pictures quieted me, grounded me,  and brought me to the peace I needed.

beyond us

What if you slept?  And what if, in your sleep, you dreamed?
And what if in your dream,
You went to heaven and plucked a stand and beautiful flower?
And what if, when you awoke,
You had the flower in your hand?
Ah, What then?

Samuel Taylor Coleridge

I love to visit the edges of things where worlds meet and merge

The veil lifts momentarily

tidying the rocks

Tim feels that I am crazy working to keep the rocks and stones clean and cleared off.  I rake, wash, sweep them.  I can't not. I have an affinity to do this.  More than that it is a passionate need.   I don't know what I did in my past life or lives, but it had some bearing on rocks.  If I don't do this they will become covered with dirt, leaves, cut grass, strawberries etc and disappear.  Even with my work this happens.  Let me tell you it is tricky to tidy rocks on 8o acres and I miss many and nature gets ahead of me all the time.

So crazy as it seems I will continue this labor of love.

A rainy day is the perfect time for a walk in the woods. ~Rachel Carson

And the perfect finish is to come in and sit by the fire.
