the ordinary of our lives

My camera sees and makes me see.
If I remember to pick it up, it reminds me to slow, to see.

I am pretty good at this looking around me,
but the weight of my camera does help.
Sitting yesterday reading I looked up and really saw this little piece
which has been with me many many years in assorted locations.
Had I ever appreciated seeing it?

 It is stunning
So much in life is this way.
It is right there and we miss seeing and enjoying  it.
What a waste.

cute cute cute..... on my....

Sometimes the gifts we give are fun and fit well
and sometimes they don't.
I gifted these to B & A
and hope they and the boys will enjoy them.
This was fun!
I enjoyed looking for prints for a nursery  ~  YEAH ETSY!!!
and had the bestest time working with Rebecca in choosing mats and frame.
Packing them was a bit of a bear
I did not envy those having to do the unpacking,
but they made it to the shower all safe.

You have to admit that they are incredibly cute!

good advice in my mail today!!!!!!

Talking about our problems
has become our greatest addiction.
Break the habit –
talk about your joys.

MY LIFE IS A CIRCLE.  MY LIFE IS MY SONG.

November the month of the hunt

I am not a fan of killing yet killing happens.
I am in the midst of the mouse hunt while hunters in Maine are after deer.
We post our property yet this year have given permission to our neighbor
to hunt as he needs the meat to feed his family.
He lives pretty much hand to mouth no matter how hard he works to make ends meet.
He is responsible and a good hunter
or I would not have allowed him to hunt.
We ran into him at dusk yesterday in our lower field while walking the dogs.
He was decided where he would hunt.  He had been following some deer
which we and the dogs had spooked or jumped as they say in hunter talk.
Gene wanted to know where we walk
so he would be in a spot where we don't go..
Well we go
  pretty much everywhere,
lower fields, down to the river, through Laura's land, behind the yurt,
in the bog our upper fields, trails and all all our boundary lines
which is why I told him to figure out where he would be hunting
and we will avoid that area
and to let us know when he will be hunting.
Time and again we find the stray hunter
on our property so it is why we become the orange brigade for the month.
Hunters manage to shoot each other in orange and horses and dogs so there are not guarantees, but you try to make yourself seen.

Living in the woods is wonderful.  Between our land and our neighbors and the bog we have a huge area.
November is a heavenly month to walk the woods,
yet it loses its some of the magic and appeal when you have to be aware of the danger.
It is one of the seasons here that aren't perfect like snow, mud, bugs, hunting....
all part of the package that is Maine.

meditation or murder?

I decided to do a little Zen garden in the dome.
Got nice little tools to rake it, got beautiful sands and put it all together.
I worried the cats would come in and use the sand for a bathroom.
THAT has not been the problem.

The problems has been mice.
I rake the sand into peaceful lovely designs.
Mice come in at night and tap dance in the sand
and poop in the sand
and garden is not feeling so peaceful and nice.

SO I have been setting trap(s) and I have been killing mice - about 10 so far.
Once mouse a day, DEAD....
Not making me feel too great.  I do not like to make things dead.
Not a great way to start a day to go out to dispose of a little dead body.
This all feels like a meditation in hell oh so un-nice.

I am working on the theory that sooner or later
I will run out of mice.
Then I can clean up my sand
and try to regain the Zen feeling
that a Zen garden should bring.

another day

What a difference a day makes.
Today we have sun, a breeze and it is a perfect OUTSIDE day
I have moved mulch, rocks, wood and most important cleaned off rocks.

Buddha's home has become overgrown to such a degree
it is going to take some time to bring it back to the way
it looked below when Buddha was first put here.

We got a good start today, but my body she no like to do so much work anymore.
She told me time to stop.
Since I am getting smarter in my vintage years,
I stopped.
We will continue work another day.
In the meantime, Shunka and I sat out with Buddha and enjoyed the day.

overcast

Unseasonably warm with a southwest wind just whipping the rain
this first day of November.
It is a marvelous day to be in not out.
